School is ending soon

February 24, 2017 by LeRoy Miller 3 Comments

In the Philippines, the school year ends sometime the end of March, which means that they have about 4 weeks left.   I was talking to them this morning and they are all working on end of year projects, reports, and studying for tests.

The middle schoolroom.

I am always encouraged when I hear them tell about the effort that they are putting into their studies.

Babeselle was telling me about her botany presentation that she was making for a college level class.  She had pulled together a slide presentation (Libra office version of PowerPoint), and had her speech ready about the particular family of plants and it’s uses.   I would have enjoyed to see it or video it for you, but she sounded like she had it all together.   She got a 100% grade.

Her cousin, Meriam, was working on a project about the natural healing of the locally grown plants.   I had taken a long list of plants and their uses with me when I was there and she became intrigued with the possibilities.

The others had grade appropriate projects and reports that they are working on.   Their reviews sound as if they will be ready for final testing when it comes around.

I am very proud of my kids and their dedication.

We have encouraged them as much as possible and rewarded both results and genuine efforts. What is interesting is how the interaction has developed organically among the children.

They encourage each other and when they see one of the children struggling or possibly falling behind, THEY are the ones to attempt to help the one that is having a problem. If they cannot get it across, they ask for assistance.

Same happens here…the children do not laugh or tease another child that might be having trouble…they all work together to assist…I love it and I love being a bit involved in it…They always make us very proud.
