It’s that time again – intermittent electric time

May 1, 2017 by LeRoy Miller Leave a Comment

It is summer time and the children’s home and the whole area is experiencing brownouts.   It is a total lack of electricity that we would call blackout here but they call them brownouts.

It was explained to me that most of the power comes from hydroelectric sources.   In the summer time, it is the dry season and the rains will be minimal until sometime in June.  After that, it depends on how fast the water sources fill up before the electricity becomes at least as reliable as it normally is; not that it is always that reliable but it is much better than right now.

That means the refrigerator works intermittently, communications are sporadic, light can only be planned on working from 6:00am-6:00pm when the sun is up.   Otherwise, plan on darkness.

So for now, contact with them and their life will revolve around electricity.
